Remembering I’m not just a parent

Saturday Jay did leaves, and I cleaned up inside. I tired to help with the leaves, but the cold was killing my asthma. Gail and Bryon came over around 2:30 to help feed Cory and Jay and headed out for our first real date in I can’t remember how long. I was upset at first that we were going to be gone so long and Jay took care of all the planning. I have a hard time letting go of responsibility. But we left around 3:30 to go see Beowulf in Hanover in digital, surround sound, 3D. It was pretty good. It’s different from the story, but I liked what they did with it. We then went out to Wasabi to have dinner. It was a nice sushi bar/hibachi restraunt. It was dim lit, but I liked the romance. Our sushi tray had little butterflies and hearts and christmas trees cut out of vegetables. It was cute. It was a nice night at we were home by 8:30 or so. I really had a great time. Thanks Gail and Bryon- even though it was Jay’s birthday present.

Friday Courtney and I went out to see Enchanted- it was ok. Cute Disney deal. Then we went to Cobblestone’s and had dinner and a drink until at least 10 or so. It was so nice to go out with a friend. I really needed some time out. It’s always nice to talk and have a drink with grown up girls! Especially ones that are moms and understand. Thanks Courtney.

Otherwise, I just finished another grad class tonight. I spent most of my time outside of Jay’s and my date working on my paper. I harassed my mother at least three times trying to make sense of my data through statistics. Ugh. Finally I just had her tell Jay and he told me. My brain was seriously fried on standard deviation!

Jay had pretty much taken care of Cory since Friday afternoon, minus Gail and Bryon time. He’s been a real super dad. Especially since Cory has decided he’ll only take the bottle fully from him. What a daddy’s boy. I thought the boys were supposed to belong to the moms? Anyway, he just seems to be fighting the bottle. He gets halfway through the cries and fights the last half. I know he needs it, but we’re back to the I don’t want to, I’d rather play.

He’s really getting around now. He’ll pull his legs under himself, but not quite get them moving and coordinated. He pulls himself around on his arms and mostly spins in circles. He seems happier playing on the floor and reaching for things. He still prefers rough housing with Daddy. Sigh. We also think he’s working on his top two teeth. It’s starting to get soft and swollen up there.

We’ll see!

I was at work Saturday afteroon. You should have stopped in to say hello to me…..

I’m glad that you and Jay are getting alone time. That sometimes is the best 1-2 hours of conversation without child…hurry up he will be up……or we need to do this….

We should plan a date night. Let me know if you would like to do that!!
