Cory’s first Dr. office visit

It seemed like a great event to take Cory to his first appointment. You’d think that nurses who worked at a ped. office wouldn’t be so thrilled with a newborn, but they are. I love people telling me how adorable he is and congratulating us. We filled out tons of papers- it was so new writing his name over and over again. That and one demegraphics paper had two questions with boxes yes and no- Was your labor long, Was your labor hard? I thought, how am I supposed to answer that objectively? What mom would say it ;s easy? So I just noted that I was induced and had pre-eclampsia. Then a nurse took us back to a room. We striped him down and she measured him and weighed him…and then he peed on her. Maybe that’s why they call it the PED. office. hee hee. It was a bit embarassing but she didn’t seem to care. She said, “What you think this doesn’t happen?” Before the pee and poopy diaper, he weighed in at 7 lbs. 10. oz. That means since his discharge on Saturday of 7 lbs. 1 oz. He gained 9 oz. in 4 days. Dr. Woo even said wow. I think he’s getting plenty. That means he’s getting 2.3 or so oz. a day in growth. He listened all over Cory and poked and shinned lights and the such and said he looked great.

I’ve been much better about napping and had a pretty good day so far. I hope the trend continues through the night. He’s still not regulating his feedings ( 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours…never know), but since I stopped pumping my breasts hurt a lot less. I think my body is learning to make just enough for him. I still leak at night, but it’s no big deal. I just wrap a towel around my front so I don’t have to change the sheets all the time!

Getting around is getting easier, too. Jay and I even took our first outing without Cory yesterday. We went to get a new microwave and a new modem. We were gone maybe an hour and a half while mom watched Cory. I was walking very slow. Things still hurt. I was definitely done when I got back.

Today Jay’s grandparents and Liz came over to visit. I’m starting to feel more up to visitors than before. It’s easier to not feel like I want to fall sleep or just go rest when others are here. It was nice to have some company to show off our little boy to.

Other than that, we just sit and stare at his adorable face and get so excited about his little smiles.
